Thomas joined Masters in 1999 and since then has been involved in a wide variety of costs cases including the justification and opposition of costs in arbitrations; substantial High Court Commercial matters; and in cross border proceedings involving the assessment of costs in Guernsey, Jersey, Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands and Bermuda. His advocacy experience includes appearing before the Privy Council as well as in relation to the assessment of costs in the Senior Courts Costs Office.
In addition to the inter partes quantification and assessment of costs, Thomas works with firms to develop project management tools with a focus on the estimation and monitoring of legal spends. This work supports and compliments the advice and assistance that Thomas provides to clients involved in proceedings that are subject to costs management; and cases where detailed costs information is required to secure and maintain third party litigation funding.
Thomas has also been involved in the recovery of costs payable out of central funds arising from criminal matters, including an SFO investigation involving multiple defendants with costs running into millions of pounds.
