
Phil is a Partner in the Media Litigation Department, also specialising in Clinical Negligence & Personal Injury, Costs Management & Budgeting, Group Litigation and Solicitors Act Assessments.
Having trained with a prominent independent costs consultancy, Phil joined Masters in 2006 before qualifying as a Costs Lawyer in 2011. Phil has over 20 years’ experience and deals with all aspects of the costs process from costs management to attendance at detailed assessment hearings. Phil has a broad caseload ranging from high profile defamation and privacy cases to complex high value clinical negligence claims. Phil was heavily involved in the preparation of a very substantial Bill of Costs(£50m+) in ENRC v Dechert. He is also involved in the ongoing Pan-NOx(Emissions) Litigation for one of the Lead Defendants (Ford) in respect of costs management and other costs issues.
Phil represents clients in both the justification and opposition of costs and in relation to complex disputes. Phil has considerable advocacy experience and regularly represents clients at CCMCs involving substantial costs budgets. He also acts as independent assessor for jointly instructing parties and as an independent expert for providing reports to the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation.
